One of my favorite non-major tournaments of the year. The tour heads down to the Big Easy for the Zurich Classic. For the second year in a row this event will feature two-man teams playing two rounds of foursomes and two rounds of four ball. As we know, team golf is always full of excitement and makes the best out of a great field. On top of that the PGA TOUR has finally come to their senses and listened to the players/fans and added walk up music on the first tee box.
The field is stacked with guys like Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and John Daly headlining. Plus there will also be a lot of eyes on US Open champ Brooks Koepka as he make his return to golf and Jason Day who is trying to build some momentum as he heads into the second half of the FedEx Cup season.
The pairings are looking pretty solid as well. The field of 80 two-player teams is a story-line in itself. You have Bubba and Kuchar paired together and who have 6 years of Presidents Cup experience. You have the Texan team with Ryan Palmer and Spieth… both have had placed well at this event. And you also have the Patrick’s (Reed, and Cantlay) who are both strong rising stars on TOUR. Onto the course. Beyond it being a TPC and the host of this event which brings major champions, international stars and some of the top young guns in the world… it’s a Pete Dye design which means it’s going to have some beautiful/challenging bunkering. The course is over 7,300 yards and requires plenty of long approach shots which means these guys better bring their short game. Scrambling is incredibly important this week – just like last year.
So, with that… you know the drill – check out our picks below for the Zurich Classic. Given the format this week we are only picking one team. Comment below with your pick and follow us on Twitter for some more hot takes this weekend.
