Hands down a Manhattan is my favorite drink.  Classy, delicious, and easy to make.  While a Manhattan is not the best drink for the course, it can be enjoyed at the club after a round, a nice dinner, or winding down your night at home.  In the world of craft cocktails, the Manhattan has stood the test of time…made it through prohibition, stood strong during the 60’s and 70’s, maintained during heavy beer drinking years of the 80’s and 90’s, and is still on menus at steak houses and craft cocktail bars.  No matter the season, no matter the occasion the Manhattan gets the job done.  There is just something about the bitterness of the whiskey, the sweetness of the vermouth, and the temperature of the drink that makes it so refreshing.

A couple years ago I decided to barrel age our own Manhattan’s.  We plan on featuring our recipe in a couple weeks.  I wanted to show our followers how I make a Manhattan…Enjoy.

The Manhattan:

First, add 2 oz of whiskey (I like Bulleit)…

Second, 1 ounce sweet vermouth ( I used Carpano Antica Formula)…

Third, 5 dashes Angostura bitters (I have been using Woodford Reserve Spiced Cherry Bitters – Bourbon Barrel Aged)…

Stir or shake…

Pour over ice…

Enjoy.
