Golf STarz Take on the Dominion Energy Charity Classic:
-J. Lee
Well the pressure is on for the legends of the game as they tee it up at The Country Club of Virginia’s James River course. The field will go from 72 to 54 to 36 players in the Schwab Cup Playoffs starting this week at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic. The course was designed by William Flynn who is also known for his work on Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado, Shinnecock Hills in New York and The Upper Cascades in Virginia at the Homestead. Although the field is full, guys like Fred Couples and Steve Stricker are not competing this week. Bernhard Langer leads the standings and is seeking his fifth Schwab Cup and fourth in a row. Scott McCarron, who won last year’s inaugural tournament in a playoff over Tom Byrum, is second. You can see the full field here and get a look at the tee sheet for this week here. By the way the winner collects $305,000 of the $2 million purse.
We would normally be rooting for the Columbus native Rod Spittle but because this is the start of the Schwab Cup we will give you who we think has the best chance of winning.
