Golf Starz Take on The Safeway Open
Golf is back baby! Yes, that’s right… the 2017-2018 season is underway this weekend at the Safeway Open. It felt like only yesterday we were watching team USA dominate the Presidents Cup and some of our friends capture their tour cards. I am glad the tour is back, I don’t think I could wait another day without golf.
As we kick off the new season, this week we will be introduced some new faces. The tour kicks off at Silverado Resort and Spa North in wine country (Napa, CA). Silverado has played host to this tournament for the last couple years. Jimmy Walker, Brendan Steele, and Emiliano Grillo can call themselves past winners. The field this year is stacked as always. Phil Mickelson, John Daly, Bryson DeChambeau, Keegan Bradley to name a few. We also get to see some of our favorite Web.com alums. You will get to see some of the rising stars like Peter Uihlein, Tom Lovelady, Matt Atkins, Steve Wheatcroft, Chesson Hadley, Brice Garnett, and Troy Merritt. You can check out the full field here.
Here is how Phil describes the course on Tee-Scripts.com…“I like the feel of the golf course,” – “I really like it. It reminds me of the old Torrey (Pines) South. The way the holes moved, the way the greens have similar contours to them and the length wasn’t overpowering but you had to be very precise to get it close to some of the holes.” This course is going to challenge the field on shot selection. Percussion and accuracy are the name of the game this week. If you are able to control your shot you, the course will allow for you to capitalize and put yourself into position for a birdie. Check out the layout of the course here.
We are excited to see the new season kick off and even more excited for the new faces on tour. The winner this week receives:
- 500 FedEx Cup points.
- A spot in the Sentry Tournament of Champions, a winners-only event, at Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii in January.
New season, but you all know the rules. Our picks are below. Comment who you think is going to take home the wine barrel.
- Favorite: Uncle Phil (riding the Presidents Cup high)
- Long shot: Tom Lovelady
- Favorite: Brendan Steele
- Long shot: I was going to go with John Daly (how can you not) but I have to stick with the Web.com guys – I’m taking Joel Dahmen.
Oh and if you will be in attendance for this event just know that we are jealous. Please send us videos and pictures to email@example.com or as always slide in to the DM’s.
