Today’s review comes from our friend Mr. Lafferty Daniels on a golf ball company who is all about alignment and center of gravity. Below is his review on the Zen Golf Balls – enjoy!
Zen claims, “More than 99% of golf balls currently produced are made without identifying the center of gravity.” While, I cannot verify this claim, it jumped out at me. Nothing against all other golf balls. But to me, even something like 75% of golf balls produced without identifying the center of gravity would seem to be a lot. Like most other golfers, I rely on the little line that the manufacturer puts on the ball to line to help line up my putts. Now, some manufacturers put the line on the side of the ball for decoration rather than performance. However, I am really starting to like that I can rely on the line that Zen has provided.
Now on to performance on the course. Zen Golf sent us a dozen of the Zen Bold III (Multicolored) and Zen Tour IV to try out. Frist, I love the look of the bold multicolored ball. Bubba Watson started playing colored balls on the tour and I have been interested in them ever since. The balls played well the whole round. Full disclosure, I have never heard much around the center of gravity, but the ball did not disappoint. Both the Bold and the Tour allowed me to feel more confident on the putting green.
Additionally, I never thought that finding the center of the gravity on the ball before a drive would help me off the tee. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my drives seemed to fly off the tee straighter. My only complaint when I have a Zen golf ball in the bag – I no longer will be able to use the excuse that the center of gravity was misaligned.
The price of a dozen balls is right in line with most manufacturers of three and four-piece golf balls. Plus, they offer free shipping within the United States.
Since starting at Golf Starz, I have tried a number of different golf balls from up and coming companies. Each company offers something very different than another, and not all get a highlight on here. What I can tell you about Zen is I could tell a different in putting. I believe the old saying good, drive for show and putt for dough. Anything that will help my putt is worth a try. Head on over to Zen and give them a try.
Mr. Lafferty Daniels is a weekend warrior when it comes to golf. Mr. Daniels shoots in the mid to low 90’s most of the time. Has been know to have a couple snowmen on the score card but with the right amount of luck and sometimes with a little help from the trusty foot wedge can find his way into a birdie.
Zen Golf sent us two dozen golf balls free of charge to play with and write an honest review. All of the reviews we share on Golf Starz are our own honest opinions.
